Large Public Roundabout Sculpture Fishing for Gravity & Waves of Viticulture

This flowing Large Public Roundabout Sculpture takes inspiration from the undulating waves of tree leaves, curling tendrils of vines, and the bountiful bunches of ripe grapes. Playful yet distinctive, the massive scale beautifully adorns the roundabout.

Large Public Roundabout Sculpture Introduction

The outdoor metal sculpture is titled “Fishing for Gravity and Waves of Viticulture”, combining scientific breakthrough with agricultural bounty. “Fishing for Gravity” draws inspiration from LIGO’s groundbreaking astrophysics, aiming to “fish” for and eventually “land” gravitational waves predicted by Einstein’s theory. It is a distorted spacetime grid based on the warping from gravitational waves, sweeping upward to capture distant star clusters. The sculpture is a reminder of our physical connection to the skies and stars overhead. At night, its stainless steel tubing and starburst plates will bathe in atmospheric uplighting. The surrounding landscaping continues the artwork’s distortions, waves, and ripples, further alluding to gravitational waves passing through our planet’s landscapes and organisms.

The Waves of Viticulture utilize the silhouette of local grape vine leaves to echo the oscillations of the passing gravitational waves. These stainless steel leaves will curl and be supported by sustainable tamarisk posts (sourced locally) also used for grape vineyard rows. The leaf silhouettes radiate in arrangement, integrating into the circular intersection’s landscaping to enhance the sculpture’s perspective. At night, the twisted surfaces will capture overhead highway lights and car headlights as wavering photons bent by gravity.

Sustainable Materials for the Large Roundabout Sculpture

Both circular art pieces incorporate bottle ends. Recycled glass is a sustainable material source, providing glinting light and color while emphasizing the connection between the two sculpture placements.
